FASHIONABLE frocks and galloping fillies will lure thousands of people to Sunraysia’s Melbourne Cup Day celebrations today.
The biggest event on Sunraysia’s racing calendar is here and organisers promise an action-packed day of events on and off the field at both Mildura and Wentworth race courses as trainers vie for cups at both tracks.
Local races will build momentum before the year’s most anticipated race is aired live from Melbourne and televised live on big screens at both venues, with hundreds of locals tipped to have a flutter.
Bare skin showing, race goers will welcome a drop in temperature, from yesterday’s scorching 39 degree heat to a balmy 27 degrees today.
Cloud is expected this morning with isolated showers clearing for a day of action on field.
West to southwesterly winds averaging 30 to 40 km/h are tipped to reach up to 45km/h.
Champagne will be flowing, beer frothing and ice cold soft drinks on standby for thirsty punters as well as coffees, hot chips, hamburgers, steak sandwiches, rolls and ice-cream.
