A grass fire near Ouyen spread across 400ha of private property.

The Farrell Street blaze was 3km south of Ouyen on the eastern side of the Calder Highway.

With wind blowing in a north-westerly direction there was no concern of it spreading to the road, according to a fire authority spokesperson.
