 40C for opening

40C for opening

16 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
HUNDREDS of swimmers made a splash in the sun at the new Merbein pool yesterday.

At 40 degrees, it was the perfect day to open the pool.

Families flooded through the gates at 10am, with some people lining up for an hour before the opening.

In a $1.5 million redevelopment the old pool on Box Street was demolished and rebuilt into a modern eight-lane facility, along with two kid-sized pools.

The main 25-metre pool is wheelchair accessible and appropriate for rehabilitation and recovery with a modern wet deck and ramp.

Upgrades were also made to changing room facilities, with help from a government Regional Local Infrastructure grant of $500,000.
