A day at the races

04 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
THE race that stopped a nation did just that at Wentworth and District Racing Club yesterday.

The weather cool change saw about 1300 punters trackside to watch the year’s most anticipated race – the Melbourne Cup – as well as top quality local races including the much coveted Wentworth Cup.

Punters welcomed the temperature drop from 39 degrees on Monday to a balmy 22 degrees yesterday.

There were smiles all round as race goers lapped up perfect race day weather, marquees, catering vans and picnic rugs lined the course.

Champagne fizzed, beer frothed and glasses toasted wins and losses.
