Born in Jericho, Victoria, on November 14, 1909, Belle married Herbert Berryman in 1927 and they joined the first pioneers in Yarrara, near Meringur.

After a long working life on her Yarrara farm she is content spending her time playing cards at home with her daughter Lois Richards and Lois’ husband Dan.

“I can still play cards with a light beside me,” she said. “Mildura was quieter in 1955, we used to leave our doors open when we went down the street.

“I liked the farm life quite good, milking the cows.

“It was a lot different to now, when we lived out on the farm. We didn’t have refrigeration and it was very hot.”
