Bitter bypass

JUBILEE Drive residents say their quiet street has become banked up with detoured traffic since construction began on the Fifteenth Street and Ontario Avenue roundabout.

The council’s roundabout roadworks began in late-August and will continue until mid-December, with traffic diverted from Walnut Avenue to Ontario Avenue through Jubilee Drive.

But residents say speeding hoons and detoured buses are causing problems.

Jubilee Drive resident Helen Lonsdale said neighbours had been annoyed with the increased local traffic.

“The traffic banks up here so you have to be careful coming out the driveway,” she said.

“Some of it goes very fast.

“I think if the police sat there they might see it.

“We get buses and everything so it’s extra busy.”

One resident said there had been a lot of complaints.

“It’s like Burke Street up and down that road,” he said.
