Irrigators interested in applying for the Small Block Irrigators Exit Grant Package have been reminded that it closes at the end of this month.
Minister for Climate Change and Water, Senator Penny Wong says the current extended drought, combined with the global financial crisis, is making it tough for some irrigators on small blocks to remain viable.
“This program aims to help small block irrigators exit the irrigation industry while remaining in their own homes and communities, at the same time as returning water to stressed rivers and wetlands,” Senator Wong said.
“The program is one element in our 10-year, $12.9 billion Water for the Future plan to secure our water supplies, take action on climate change, use water wisely and support healthy rivers.”
