Fresh meals for needy

10 Apr, 2009 05:00 AM
A SOUP kitchen at Centercare is serving fresh and healthy home cooked meals for people in the community doing it tough.

The Soup Kitchen ‘N’ More has been running since February and is open at Centercare from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Monday and Wednesday

On Wednesday a special meal was served to SuniTAFE students and supporting partners, such as the Adventist Development Relief Agency.

Annie Prideaux, coordinator of the soup kitchen, said yesterday her team provided a sit down social venue and service to people in the community.

“We started doing it because we have a social conscience and are aware the winter can be a difficult time for people,” Ms Prideaux said.

“People can feel isolated and it’s important to help when we can.

“The team is a wonderful bunch of volunteers.

“It’s been great so far.

“We haven’t promoted it heavily but word has been getting around and we’re expecting more people to start coming.
