Keep cool to survive

Paramedics are warning the public to hydrate and keep cool during the heatwave.

During the past week Mildura’s ambulance service has seen up to six extra patients a day suffering from heat related illnesses.

And as the sizzling temperatures continue Mildura’s station officer Tom Athorn is expecting paramedics will be busy.

“We just know that when we get successive hot days we get more and more cases each day,” he said.

“With the anticipation of 41 degrees for (today) and Sunday we’re probably going to see six, seven, eight (cases) a day.”

He said extreme cases were yet to be seen in Mildura this year. He thought it was a good idea that some of this weekend’s sporting and community events had been cancelled because of extreme temperatures.
