Landcare cutbacks bite

02 May, 2009 05:00 AM
The Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) facilitates the Mallee Regional Landcare Network, which includes nine main Landcare groups/networks stretching from Murrayville to Nyah.

One Landcare co-ordinator is employed for each of the nine Landcare areas.

Changes to the way the federal government allocates its funding will mean funds for Landcare co-ordinators will no longer be available.

However, the Mallee CMA says it has structured funding bids to ensure the role of Landcare co-ordinators is re-structured in line with the Federal Government’s new focus on funding priorities and is working towards retaining as many positions as possible.

Mallee CMA chief executive officer Jenny Collins it was still uncertain how many people would be affected by the funding cuts.
