New mega-sports store is ‘hands-on’

25 Sep, 2009 05:00 AM
MILDURA’S first interactive sports store opens today at noon.

After growing out of its Langtree Avenue retail unit, Mildura Sports Centre has been supersized and relocated to the corner of Deakin Avenue and Eleventh Street.

Boasting a boxing ring, mini basketball court and running track, the 1583sqm building is the city’s biggest sports store.

Owner Mark O’Donnell said the store had merged with clothing store One 44 Nine

After more than 25 years of serving Mildura people, he said it was time to spice things up.

“Sports stores have generally have become a bit boring Australia-wide, so we’ve tried to do something a bit different,” he said. “We’ve made an interactive store.

“We’ve got a boxing ring, (an area) where kids can play Wii Fit games, we’ve got a basketball hoop.”
