The government’s grim response to a last-ditch plan to save the station is expected to be made official today.

While not the absolute end, the decision has gutted the small community.

“We’re going like buggery out here with the (grain) harvest because there’s rain coming but we’re not real happy, no,” a Walpeup farmer said yesterday.

Sunraysia Institute of TAFE yesterday released an investigation into ways to keep the research station open after the Department of Primary Industries announced it was closing its doors a year ago.
