HAVING well maintained roads is very important to our community and while it can be a juggling act at times, council is always doing something to maintain and improve local roads.
With more than 1100km of sealed and 4500km of unsealed roads in our municipality, there is a lot of monitoring and maintenance required. Each road is inspected every six months.
A number of projects are in progress as part of scheduled maintenance programs, council’s capital works program or through Roads to Recovery and VicRoads funding.
The most visible project currently underway is the Pine Avenue reconstruction between Ninth and Tenth Streets.
This $750,000 project will provide 53 additional car parking spaces in the CBD and is the second stage of the Pine Avenue upgrade.
Preliminary works are also being completed in preparation for a roundabout to be constructed at one of our most congested intersections at Ontario Avenue and Fifteenth Street.
With the residential expansion in this area, this is a key intersection for access to schools, Centro and the Mildura Airport.
The new roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety and council has secured $337,000 from the Federal Government towards the construction.
