Taxi anger

THE new taxi pick-up zone is a disaster waiting to happen, according to some local traders and taxi drivers.

A number of businesses along Eighth Street have expressed their anger over the lack of information they received over the newly built waiting zone.

The Great Australian Ice Creamery owner Wayne Roberts raised concerns his store was likely to be damaged by alcohol-fuelled violence and vandalism.

“I’m very concerned it’s going to cause a problem for businesses in this area and we’ll have to pay for any damage because council won’t cover us,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter if there are security guards or not, if someone wants to belt someone they will.
