HUMAN Rights Week is designed to celebrate and acknowledge human rights across Australia.

Chairman of the Human Rights Festival in Mildura, Rudolph Kirby from the Department of Justice said it was also a chance to celebrate the diverse community makeup in Sunraysia.

“It is a great opportunity from December 7 to 12 here in Mildura to celebrate and acknowledge the rights we have here in this country that we may tend to take for granted,” Mr Kirby said.

“Freedom of speech and religion, the right to vote, education and freedom of political and civil rights and the protection of children, women and the family – these and other freedoms we have here will all be celebrated across Mildura in various locations from December 7 to 12.
