Geoff’s attuned to life

17 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
GEOFF Quennell has devoted 35 years serving the community as an ambulance paramedic in the Victorian Ambulance Service, but his other life interests are many, colourful and equally as personally rewarding.

An inquisitive builder of things from an early age with a desire to know how things work and what makes them tick has challenged Geoff all along the way.

“I started tinkering with pianos when I was about 16, it started out as a hobby and in more recent years I have learnt the art of fine tuning them.

“The pleasure I get from tuning a fine, hand-crafted instrument and getting it in perfect pitch is very satisfying – it’s an art, not a science.

“The new Steinway and Sons grand piano at the Mildura Arts Centre is still a bit ‘stiff’ compared to the 10-year-old Yamaha I tuned yesterday, but in a few years, it will be a great piano to keep in tune.
