CELEBRATE Wentworth’s heritage and culture at the township’s 150th anniversary with an extravaganza party this month.
An extravaganza of fun and festivities has been planned over three days – June 19-21– to showcase the shire’s growth since it was named in 1859.
The town will recreate the olden days by holding events to represent the town’s history, people and significant changes throughout the years.
From street parades to a sheep run, film showings, and a festival of pubs, people will have plenty to do as the town comes alive.
Paddle steamers will steam along the Darling River to capture the essence of the town and tours at the gaol and museum will portray the town’s history.
An old-time dinner and dance will be held at the Wentworth Club and a pub crawl will promote the town’s night life.
Wentworth’s Folk Museum member Nikki Bond said she and other locals, would be dressed in 19th century period clothing and hand out show bags around the town.
“We’ll be dressing up in all types of old style costumes to celebrate the 150th,” she said. “To revert back to that era we’re doing lots of historical things to make it feel authentic.”
