Spirits are high at Robinvale distillery

22 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
A NEW distillery in Robinvale has created high spirits among locals with the business expected to have a flow-on effect to the local economy.

Taking over from the Old McWilliam’s Winery in Robinvale last month, the new multi-million dollar Murray Valley Distillery will churn out more than 50 million bottles of wine, whisky and vodka a year.

Boasting Australia’s largest pot still, Murray Valley Distillery owner Dawid Ostrowski, who has brewed different drops in Scotland and America, said he was back in Robinvale to start his ambitious commercial venture to produce a less expensive but quality vodka.

“We’ve got Australia’s largest pot still – to my knowledge -- but if anyone has a bigger one they can let me know,” Mr Ostrowski said.

“The pot still distils in batches which basically means better refinement so you don’t get that burning feeling in your throat (when you drink vodka). That’s a chemical you don’t want,” he said.
