IT’S tax time once again and those hoping to claim a refund are being told to get in early to beat the rush.

Some Mildura accountants are busier than other years due to education rebates and a growing eagerness to receive refunds as soon as possible.

Sunraysia Information and Referral Service (SIRS) is offering a free Tax Help service for simple tax returns, for those earning under $40,000 a year.

Joan Hill, SIRS honorary secretary, said Tax Help was a free service where SIRS volunteers, trained by the Tax Office, filled in simple tax returns for those earning less than $40,000.

“They’re just ordinary tax returns for employed people who haven’t got any shares and properties, nothing complicated,” Mrs Hill said.

“If you earn less than $40,000, call and make an appointment.
