Who’s going to Tamworth?

06 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
EIGHT Sunraysia musicians will hit the stage at the Coomealla Sports Club this weekend, vying for the honour of winning a place in the Telstra Road To Tamworth talent quest.

The event will be headlined by Australian music legend James Blundell, while past Songwriter’s Award winner Briana Lee will support him.

Blundell speaking from his station property near Stanthorpe in Queensland said he was looking forward to playing and judging at Coomealla.

“I’ve got an appearance at the Telstra Store at Centro at two in the afternoon then I’ll be at the Coomealla Sports Club in the evening.”

Blundell said he initially had agreed to perform at each heat before being asked to judge as well.

“Initially I’d just agreed to perform and I agreed because I could understand why they wanted a bit of time to make their decision.

“Then they asked if I could judge and I was a little bit hesitant.

“But I think I’ve judged seven of the 13 heats and seen something at all of the events which has been worth the trip for.”

Blundell said he used a number of criteria to judge the performers.

“The main judge is Phill Page, from Mushroom Music, and he asked if I was prepared to judge. I said the trouble was that I was the worst person in the world to look at some scantily clad screamer and give them marks on it.
