COOMEALLA-Wentworth took another big scalp in SCA First Division cricket at the weekend, downing last season’s minor premiers Mildura West on Saturday.
The Blues’ third consecutive win this season came off the back of a brilliant all-round bowling effort as they dismissed West for just 113 from 36.2 overs.
West’s bowlers were always going to be hard pressed to defend such a paltry total and Coomie’s batsmen reached the total in a canter, eventually finishing on 3-159 from their 40 overs.
After winning the toss and batting, West got off to a disastrous start with Kristjan Hobbs trapped LBW by Shane Dalziel for a duck, and fellow opener Aaron West followed him back to the pavilion shortly after.
It only got worse from there as Dalziel and Thom Brown ripped through West’s middle order, Dalziel picking up 3-22 and Brown the standout bowler with 4-12 from his seven overs.
Only three West batsmen made it into double figures, Ashley Casey top scoring with 24.
West needed early wickets to have any chance of salvaging something from the match, but Glen Stephen and Jeremy Giddings ensured the Blues got off to a good start and solid contributions from Tim Plumridge and Dalziel guided Coomie to a comfortable victory.
