Con’s still king of the bush

19 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
Any doubts Con Kelly was the “King of The Bush” were quashed on Sunday when his grand campaigner Old Songs dug deep to grab the Donald Cup.

Following his runaway win in the Betfair King of The Bush Series and receiving the $25,000 first prize on Saturday, Con could not have imagined that his weekend could get much better.

But it did. Following a close fifth at Flemington over the carnival, Old Songs got under many punters guard and started at the luxury odds of 12-1 in the Donald Cup.

In an exciting finish Old Songs made a late lunge to win the race by the barest of margins.

Well done Con on a great weekend. A big thanks also to Betfair for a great initiative to boost the competition and interest in country racing.

Elders Mt Wycheproof Cup on Derby Day saw a very successful day for Swan Hill trainers.
