GARY Harvey’s odometer clicked over 3000 kilometres on Tuesday as he pedalled through Sunraysia on his epic cross country ride raising money for The Smith Family.

Mr Harvey, based in Singapore, started riding from Fremantle on September 25, and is now about 10 days away from ending the 5500km challenge.

His “Break the Cycle Challenge” is raising money for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program and will result in 1000 disadvantaged Australian children being able to access literacy support and fund school essentials, such as uniforms and books.

Averaging 27km/h and more than 250km a day, he said he was amazed how his body had adjusted to the daily grind.

“I’ve done tougher day races and some short multiple day races but nothing where I’ve got to get up and go every day,” Mr Harvey said.

“It’s been 12 consecutive days of over 200km.

“It’s been amazing the differences in terrain.
