Favourites, but Fed fears for Aussies

AUSTRALIA might go in as hot favourites for the Anzac Day Fed Cup clash, but they will be leaving nothing to chance against a depleted Switzerland side.

Sam Stosur, Jelena Dokic, Jessica Moore and Renae Stubbs were named yesterday as a part of the Australian team with only Casey Dellacqua unavailable due to a shoulder reconstruction in February.

Australian team coach David Taylor said nothing would be left to chance against the Swiss in the tie to be played in Mildura.

“We are confident of going through, but we’re obviously pretty wary,” Taylor said. “If you look at the Davis Cup, strange things can happen. People get inspired.

“But we’ve done all the right preparation, we’ve got a good quality grass court and all the girls are comfortable on it.”

Taylor was referring to the last time Mildura hosted an event at this level in 1998, with underdogs Zimbabwe defeating Australia and eliminating them from the Davis Cup.

Taylor said all the girls were excited and the loss of Dellacqua was offset by the inclusion of 19-year-old teenage whiz Moore.
