Fight for top 4 spot

07 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
MILDURA East and Workers-Gol Gol will be battling for a top four spot today as round four of the Sunraysia Cricket Association’s First Division competition gets under way.

Both teams have had a tough start to the season, with two losses and a win for Workers and a win, a loss and a bye for East.

In other games, Merbein South play Mildura West and Mildura Settlers take on Coomealla Wentworth.

East will rely heavily on veteran all-rounder Tom Vadlja, who is showing some good early signs that this will be another strong season.

Fortunately, a host of other players are standing and sharing the team’s run-scoring and wicket-taking burden.

Players such as Jason Harris and import Robert Newton are showing some promising form with the willow, while the Andrews – Ross and Willison – were in great touch last weekend, taking 3-33 and 3-4 respectively against Merbein South.
