THE Sunraysia Drag Racing Association will fight to have a new state-of-the-art drag strip based in Mildura as part of a multi-million dollar motor sport development in northern Victoria.
The Mildura and Swan Hill Rural City Councils are working together to develop the region as a mecca for drag racing, superbikes and motor racing.
The Swan Hill Drag Racing Club is pushing hard to have the proposed national class A quarter mile drag racing facility based at its club while the facilities for cars and superbikes would be based in Mildura.
But the SDRA says it should not be left out and will meet with Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne and the council’s corporate projects manager Andrew Millen to press its case.
“You go out to Swan Hill and they’ve probably got a good area for a track whereas we’ve already got one here,” SDRA spokesman Kingsley Kuchel said.
“It’s strange to put it in hands of a club that hasn’t got tarmac events because it takes a lot to run them.
