THE Hopeful’s have made their way straight into the Division One squash grand final after a thrilling win over The Far Side.
In an enthralling encounter, which was decided on the last game, it was left to number one Nathen Takacs to defeat Kevin Healy in an entertaining and tough five game match.
It was tight squash from both players with nothing given, but the young legs of Nathen proved the difference as has won the fifth game easily.
Earlier, the Hopeful’s Chris Stamos had defeated Stuart Kilpatrick while his teammate Jeannette Vear had another five-game marathon win against rival Jodie Foreman.
For The Far Side it was Taylor Fuda who provided them with a win by defeating Wayne Sparks.
Despite the team loss they will need to rebound quickly as they take on the Allrounders who were easy winners in the elimination final.
The Allrounders defeated The Masters three rubbers to one and never looked in danger as Gary Callaway, Dale Unwin and fill-in Ian Rochester accounted for their opponents with ease.
The Masters sole winner on the night was Alister McBain, but it was never to be as they bowed out of the finals.
Division Two provided an upset in the first week of finals with top team Damage Control going down to TNT by a couple of games.
TNT’s James Foley and Scott Jaensch were in great form to set up the win and were well supported by Trish Lauder and Trish Newbury who took a game each off their opponents to ensure the victory was complete.
