Heat on for top spots

21 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
THE heat will be back on at Blackburn Park this weekend when top four contenders Ouyen and Merbein clash.

Sunraysia Hearing Clinic Pennant Bowls moves on to Round 10 this week following the cancellation of last Saturday’s round due to soaring temperatures.

Ouyen, who had a slow start to the season, have steadily improved their ladder position and will be hoping for a win on their home turf when they measure up against Merbein.

Merbein, who have re-shuffled their side in recent weeks, will push heavily for the score to prove they have what it takes to play at the top.

At the halfway mark of the season, Red Cliffs will have the opportunity to make up for some disappointing losses to date when they host Mildura on the carpet. Mildura have looked vulnerable in their last two games and may be ripe for the picking.

Red Cliff’s Fred Guigno and Bill Christenson are having good seasons, but Maurie Press Jnr’s rink must fire if Red Cliffs are to claim a win.

Mildura Workers will host the Wentworth Steamers at Cureton Avenue with the home side tipped to take the points in this match.

Michael Legin and Ace Taylor are yet to record a loss and Peter Mitchell’s rink returned to the winner’s list in the last round.

Wentworth must get back to basics with bowls to give their skips a chance.

Irymple will travel interstate to take on the dominant force of Coomealla.

After their win over Mildura, the Coomie boys will fancy themselves in this match on home ground.
