FIVE players from the Sunraysia Hockey Association tasted competition at the elite level when they toured Malaysia last week.
Ben Henderson, Casandra Malic, Eliza Caldecott, Hannah Johnson and Lizzy Hogan were selected for the boys and girls Victorian Country Under 17 teams.
Johnson said it had been a tough tour, but very enjoyable.
“It was tough, really humid and hot,” she said. “We played against the Malaysian national team, and the men’s teams so it was tough competition.”
Henderson was the only boy from Sunraysia to be selected for the under 17 team and said the tour had been a huge learning experience.
“The pace of the game was a lot quicker than what we’re used to,” he said. “It takes higher level skills, but it was good to play up at that standard
“It was a much higher intensity game than what I’m used to.”
