Knocking on door of a win

03 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
SOUTH Australian visitor Knock Knock looks to have the credentials to salute in this year’s National Ag Mallee Cup to be run at Sandilong Park today.

The Jamie Opperman-trained gelding was successful in the Penola and Millicent Cups in successive starts in April and May this year.

Both Cups were over 1700m and Knock Knock was spelled after finishing sixth in the Warracknabeal Cup.

First-up from a spell, Knock Knock ran a pleasing fourth at Mt Gambier over 1400m the same distance as today’s race.

Knock Knock will be ridden by apprentice jockey Scott Westover, who claims a 4kg allowance, reducing the weight the nine-year-old will carry to 54kg.

Westover had his first winning ride at Bordertown on Sunday piloting Chickasan to victory at his 13th race ride.

Jamie Opperman has a two-pronged attack in the Cup also saddling up Saratoga Demon in the $9000 feature race.

Saratoga Demon has also had one run back from a spell when comfortably beaten at Mt Gambier in the same race that Knock Knock ran in.

Three starts back Saratoga Demon was placed at Casterton when ridden by Dominic Tourneur who will pilot one of the favorites Alcopop in today’s Melbourne Cup.
