THE Loddon Mallee Lightning made the long trek to Traralgon on Sunday for their round three clashes against the Gippsland Knights in the Victorian Champions League.
Tight, tough, fast and skilful matches were anticipated against one of the other regional zones who have a reputation for developing some very fine young footballers.
The Lightning and the Knights contested matches in seven age groups for both boys and girls, with the Lightning boys turning it around this week.
The under 13 boys got proceedings under way and were looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat at the hands of the Wolves.
The Knights threatened early, but it was the Lightning’s Travis Robertson who broke the deadlock late in the second half with a brilliant volley to seal a 1-0 win for the away team.
