Passion for cricket

05 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
A GROUP of specially abled cricketers in Mildura is proving that enthusiasm and passion are keys to succeed in sport.

The Mallee Duststorm cricket team will be training hard over the summer as they prepare for the All Abilities Cricket Carnival in Cranbourne in February next year.

After forming with just a handful of players earlier in the year, the team has now swelled to 14 players who train each Monday night at the Mildura Senior College oval.

Cricket Victoria’s Dan McInnes said it was great to see more and more people getting involved with the sport.

“You only have to turn up here on a Monday night to see what these guys get out of it,” McInnes said.

“Just the enthusiasm and enjoyment that they show is wonderful.

“Cricket Victoria is always keen to take cricket to any level so we were thrilled to be a part of this.”

Players are so enthusiastic that some travel from as far away as Ouyen and Murrayville to train on Monday nights.

The team is run with the support of the Mallee Sports Assembly, Mildura Settlers Cricket Club, Cricket Victoria and the Christie Centre.
