Runners arrive to highlight climate

21 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
A TEAM of emergency services workers, who began a 6000km run from Cooktown to Melbourne, are expected in Mildura today.

The Run for a Safe Climate is creating awareness of climate change by raising funds for a plan to convert Australia to safe levels of carbon emissions.

The cause will be highlighted in Mildura today at 5.30pm with a community run, which will be held at the Ornamental Lakes to celebrate the team’s arrival.

A barbecue will follow at Mildura South Football Club.

The public is invited to attend and there will be an opportunity to meet the runners, hear stories of their journey and learn about climate change impacts on Mildura’s environment.
