FORMER Wentworth player Ben McGlynn is on the move after his AFL club Hawthorn yesterday agreed to trade him to Sydney.
McGlynn, 24, will head north to the Harbour City to continue his football career in exchange for picks 46 and 70.
After missing out on the Hawks premiership in 2008, McGlynn played 16 games last season, but requested a trade at the end of the season.
McGlynn was wooed by the Swans and told Hawthorn he was prepared to nominate for either the national or pre-season draft if a trade couldn’t be done.
Since being drafted by the Hawks as a rookie in 2006, McGlynn has played 44 senior games, and has now signed a three-year deal with the Swans.
McGlynn is overseas on holiday, but his father John said his son was happy the deal had been done.
“I spoke with him last night and he’s happy so that’s the main thing,” John said.
“It’s a good move. It will be a bit of a challenge for him but I think he’ll do well.
“Sydney are a good side, Paul Roos is there and he’s a good coach and their in-and-under style will suit him down to the ground.”
