Tiger tamed

THE footballing future of former Red Cliffs coach Matthew Walder remains uncertain.

Walder, who resigned from the club following a meeting with club officials on Friday night, yesterday said he did not know which team he would be playing with this season.

The 40-year-old mid-fielder said that while he would remain in the district, he would carefully consider his options for the 2010 football year.

“I’m just going to take a few days off and lay low until the dust settles before I think about football this season,” Walder said.

“It’s not something that I’m going to rush into.

“We moved back here (from Wagga Wagga) for family-based reasons so we won’t be leaving the district.

“But I can’t comment on what may or may not happen in the weeks ahead.”

Walder has spent the past two season at Tigerland, taking their winning percentage from about 25 to 60 percent.

Yesterday, however, he said his want to raise the bar even higher this season may have been his undoing.

“I felt that I was compromised in what I wanted the club to achieve and that’s disappointing,” he said.

“In my two years at Red Cliffs I set some benchmark levels to aspire to and maybe they were a little too high.
