Wilkinson turns up the heat with bat and ball

05 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
NEW Irymple import player Matt Wilkinson showed what he was made off out in the middle in very un-English conditions on Saturday.

Wilkinson, who hails from Hull in the north of England, braved the sweltering conditions on Saturday to smash 80 and take two important wickets as the Swallows took the points against Workers-Gol Gol.

The 24-year-old’s efforts with both bat and ball have earned him the Sportzprint Player of the Round award for round three.

Coming from Hull, where the mercury rarely exceed 25 degrees, Wilkinson said he had had to quickly get used to playing in Australian conditions.

“I enjoy batting over here, the wickets are good, but it’s not very easy bowling,” Wilkinson said.

“Over in England the ball swings a bit more and there’s a bit more life in the pitches.

“It’s a lot drier here so the pitches are flatter but I’m getting used to it.
