WORKERS consolidated its claim as competition favourites in Sunraysia Hearing Clinic pennant bowls division one with a win over the previously undefeated Mildura on Saturday.
Cureton Avenue was the venue for the clash of the season with Workers and Mildura both undefeated heading into the match.
But it was the home-side Workers who turned the screws on the Mildura combination, picking up nine points in the 65-58 victory.
Neil McLean stepped in to skip for the injured Peter Mitchell, but he went down to Mildura’s Wayne Gardner 20-17 in a tight, low scoring affair.
Michael Legin’s rink remains undefeated with a tidy 25-15 licking of Neville Hodgetts. Fred Bacon is in good touch at third for Legin.
Mildura slotted Mark Eckel back into the skip position after two weeks out with Peter Harrison dropping back to third after skipping two solid wins.
Eckel may have lacked a bit of match confidence in chasing numbers at stages of the game, to the detriment of his side, but managed a draw against Ace Taylor.
Workers assume top position on the ladder, playing well as a unit, not carrying any passengers and producing consistent results.
Over at Coomealla it was the battle between the artificial greens with Red Cliffs travelling across the border.
