HOW come I missed the breaking of the drought? I haven’t left the area; haven’t been in a coma, and I’ve always strived to keep abreast of current affairs. Hard to believe this slipped past my attention – just another of life’s great mysteries.
Why lower the water restrictions? Nothing has changed except for a slight rise in storages, hardly enough to justify such a generous increase in water use. Washing cars, watering lawns – why place so much importance on these activities when this long lasting drought is still with us?
It’s said that a river dies from the mouth and there’s ample evidence of the imminent death of the Murray, so if there could ever be water to spare in the present circumstances, the sensible place for this resource is in the lower lakes and other endangered wetlands of our river. To allow car washing and extended lawn watering is quite immoral and just another example of government mismanagement.
